BrightSign Setup Guide

impressBox runs seamlessly on BrightSign media players (Series 4 and 5). Because BrightSign players don't use a traditional app store, installation is done manually via an SD card. You simply copy the impressPlayer files onto the player's SD card, switch it on, and link it to your account. No technical skills are needed.

This guide covers the standard 3-step flow. For detailed specific downloads, please check the impressPlayer install guides in your account dashboard or contact support.

Before You Start

Make sure you have the following ready:

  • A BrightSign player (Series 4 or Series 5).
  • An SD or microSD card (depending on your player model) and an SD card reader for your computer.
  • The impressPlayer BrightSign package (download the latest brightsign.zip from your impressBox account).
  • A display screen connected to the player via HDMI.
  • An active network connection (network cable preferred) connected to the player.

Put impressPlayer on the SD card

To begin, you will need to download the impressPlayer package and manually transfer it to your player's SD card. Download brightsign.zip to your computer.

  1. Format the cardUse FAT32 if your SD card is 32 GB or smaller, or use exFAT if the card is larger than 32 GB.
  2. Unzip the brightsign.zip fileLocate the downloaded package on your computer and extract (unzip) its contents.
  3. Copy files to the root levelCopy all the extracted files and folders directly to the top level (root) of your SD card.

    Crucial Step: Don't use subfolders!

    A very common mistake is copying the entire unzipped folder instead of its contents. When you open your SD card drive on your computer, you should immediately see files like autorun.brs. If you see a single folder named "brightsign" and have to click into it to see the files, the player will not work.

  4. Safely eject the cardOnce the files have completely finished copying, safely eject the SD card from your computer so you don't corrupt the data.

Start the player

  1. Make sure the BrightSign player is powered off (unplugged).
  2. Insert the prepared SD card into the player's SD card slot.
  3. Connect the player to your screen via HDMI, plug in the network cable, and finally connect the power supply to turn it on. Wait about a minute until the screen displays a 6-digit activation code.

Note: You must leave the SD card in the player permanently. The player runs the impressBox software directly from this card.

Connect it in the app

  1. Note down the 6-digit activation code shown on the screen.
  2. Open the impressBox app at m.impressbox.eu and log into your account.
  3. Navigate to your device list, click "Add new device", and enter the 6-digit code. The screen will link to your account and is now ready to receive content.

If something goes wrong

  • No code appears:Ensure the SD card is inserted fully, the files are at the root level (not in a folder), and the network is active. If the screen is black, double-check the HDMI connection and TV input source.
  • Code not working:Activation codes expire for security reasons if left on screen too long. Simply reboot the player by unplugging its power and plugging it back in to generate a fresh code.
  • Updating software:If you ever need to manually update, just format the SD card again, copy the contents of the newest brightsign.zip to it, and restart the player.

Good to know

  • No app store required. BrightSign players are purpose-built for digital signage and boot directly into the content provided on the SD card.
  • Series 5 is recommended. While Series 4 players work perfectly well, Series 5 offers enhanced processing power for smooth multi-zone layouts and heavy video playback.
  • Wired network is preferred. Digital signage devices perform best and download content fastest when connected via a hardwired Ethernet connection rather than Wi-Fi.
