Remote field service

Fix screens remotely, without sending a technician

Most problems on a screen network are not hardware failures but a cable, a network setting, a stuck decoder or a panel left in standby, and impressBox lets you see and fix them from the browser, so a technician goes out only when something is really broken.

See the screen live, and take control

Open a live view of what a player is showing, streamed over WebRTC with a still-image fallback for older players. Your mouse and keyboard reach the content on the screen: templates, web pages and the on-screen keyboard.

Access lasts five minutes and then closes by itself. Works on LG webOS, Raspberry Pi and PC players.

Network diagnostics from the device itself

Run these from the player, not from your office:

  • Ping
  • Traceroute
  • ARP
  • An HTTP probe
  • A bandwidth test
  • A time-sync check
  • A Wi-Fi scan that does not drop the connection

A neighbour check shows which of your screens can see each other on the same subnet. Results are kept per device. Works on Raspberry Pi and PC players, LG webOS, Samsung Tizen, BrightSign and Android.

Change network settings from the CMS

  • Static IP
  • DNS
  • MTU
  • Wi-Fi profiles
  • 802.1X

Passwords are stored encrypted. If the player loses its connection after a change, the change rolls back by itself. A secure outbound tunnel reaches the player’s local services without opening a single port.

A player that sets up the network

A Raspberry Pi or PC player can hand out IP addresses to panels on an isolated switch, with MAC reservations, detection of a second DHCP server and a safety shut-off, or broadcast a Wi-Fi network for other players.

For the first connection, a button press shows a QR code: the installer’s phone joins the player’s hotspot and enters the site Wi-Fi.

Install and update every LG panel on the site from one player

One player finds the LG panels on the local network, installs impressBox, sets their clocks and can reinstall over an old version.

LG firmware updates run over the LAN from a curated list that matches model and webOS version and never guesses, five panels at a time, with progress in the CMS: recommend, confirm, update.

Problems that fix themselves

  • A stuck video decoder on Raspberry Pi 4 restarts in about two seconds instead of rebooting the device.
  • A black-screen watchdog on every platform.
  • One broken file is set aside, so it cannot silence the whole screen; failed downloads retry for about two hours.
  • A broken template or video shows a calm placeholder and recovers within ten seconds.
  • A panel whose clock is years off corrects it before it connects securely.

Fault signals from the panel

LG panels report these as device errors in the CMS:

  • Fan failure
  • Backlight or screen failure
  • Signal loss
  • Overheating
  • A fallen or tilted panel
  • An opened door

The state of every HDMI, DisplayPort and VGA port is reported too, so a broken cable shows up on a screen that otherwise looks “online, playing”.

Every error has a code from one shared catalogue of more than 200.

Ask the AI agent instead of opening a ticket

The same checks, asked in plain language.

  • “Run a traceroute from the Entrance screen.”

Runs it on the player itself, not from your office, and keeps the result with the device.

  • “Which screens can the Lobby player see on its subnet?”

Runs the neighbour check from the player and lists the screens on the same subnet.

  • “The Entrance screen says it is playing, but it looks dark. What is wrong?”

Checks the device errors the LG panel reports, such as signal loss or backlight failure, and the state of its HDMI and DisplayPort ports.

Frequently asked questions

Do I still need technicians?

Yes, when something is really broken. Most problems on a screen network are not hardware failures but a cable, a network setting, a stuck decoder or a panel left in standby. impressBox lets you see and fix those from the browser, so a technician goes out only for real hardware faults.

Which players support live view?

LG webOS, Raspberry Pi and PC players. The view is streamed over WebRTC, with a still-image fallback for older players.

Is remote access safe?

Access to the live view and remote control lasts five minutes and then closes by itself. A player’s local services are reached through a secure outbound tunnel, without opening a single port, and network passwords are stored encrypted.

Can I change the network of a player that is offline?

Network settings are changed from the CMS, and if a player loses its connection after a change, the change rolls back by itself. For the first connection on site, a button press on the player shows a QR code: the installer’s phone joins the player’s hotspot and enters the site Wi-Fi.
