Canva designs on your screens

impressBox puts Canva designs on digital signage screens: connect your Canva account once, paste a design link to the AI agent, and impressBox exports the design as an image (PNG) or a video (MP4) that plays on every screen it runs on. Change the design in Canva, ask for a refresh, and the same content item is updated.

From Canva to the screen in four steps

  1. 1

    Connect Canva once

Sign in with your Canva account. impressBox asks only for read access to the content of your designs; it cannot edit or delete them.

  2. 2

    Paste a design link

Give the AI agent the link to an opened design: a canva.com/design/… URL or a canva.link short link.

  3. 3

    Pick image or video

Image (PNG) for a static design, video (MP4) for an animated one. impressBox exports the design through Canva’s API and stores the file.

  4. 4

    Play it anywhere

The export becomes a content item like an uploaded file: add it to playlists, schedule it and publish it to any screen impressBox runs on.

Update a design without touching the playlist

A Canva item in impressBox remembers the design it came from. When you change the design in Canva, ask the agent to refresh it: impressBox exports the design again from the same link and updates the existing content item, so it keeps its place in every playlist.

To swap the design for a different one, give the agent the new link for the same item. Refreshing is on request: impressBox does not watch your Canva account for changes.

Image or video

  • Image: exported as PNG, for menus, price boards and posters. A multi-page design exports its first page.
  • Video: exported as MP4, for animated designs.
  • Any screen: the result is an ordinary file, so it plays on every screen impressBox supports, older ones included.

When Canva refuses an export

Canva decides what can be exported. These are the cases impressBox explains to you in plain words.

The connected account must be able to open the design

The export runs as the Canva account connected to impressBox. That account owns the design, or the design is shared with it, or, for an “anyone with the link” design, the account has opened the link once while signed in to Canva. A public link it has never opened is not enough.

Premium elements must be paid for

If a design uses premium Canva elements that have not been paid for, Canva refuses the export. Buy or replace those elements in Canva, then try again.

Designs that need approval

A design that needs reviewer approval in Canva can be exported once it is approved.

Example prompts

  • “Add this Canva design as an image: https://canva.link/…”

Exports the design as a PNG and saves it as a content item. If Canva is not connected yet, it first replies with the Canva sign-in link.

  • “Add this animated Canva design as a video.”

Exports the design as an MP4 clip and saves it as a content item.

  • “Refresh the Canva menu design; I changed the prices.”

Exports the design again from the same link and updates the content item.

  • “Use this new Canva design for the lunch menu item instead.”

Points the existing item to the new design link and exports it.

Canva on screens: questions

How do I put a Canva design on a digital signage screen?

Connect your Canva account to impressBox once, then give the AI agent the link to your design and say whether you want an image or a video. impressBox exports it through Canva’s API and saves it as a content item that you add to a playlist like any other file.

Does the screen update when I change the design in Canva?

Not by itself. After you edit the design, ask the agent to refresh it (for example “Refresh the Canva menu design”). impressBox exports it again from the same link and updates the existing content item, so it keeps its place in your playlists.

Image or video?

Choose image for static designs; it is exported as PNG. Choose video for animated designs; it is exported as MP4.

What about designs with several pages?

An image export uses the first page of the design. To show several pages as separate slides, keep each one as its own design and add each as its own item.

Can I use a Canva template link?

No. Template links (canva.com/templates/…) cannot be exported. Open the template in Canva (“Customize this template”) and share the link of the design that opens. canva.link short links are fine.

Why does impressBox say it has no access to my design?

The export runs as the Canva account connected to impressBox, so that account must own the design or have it shared with it. For an “anyone with the link” design, open the link once while signed in to that Canva account. Canva also reports designs you cannot access as “not found”.

What can impressBox do in my Canva account?

Only read the content of your designs to export them. impressBox does not edit, create or delete designs.

Which screens can show Canva designs?

All of them. The design arrives as an ordinary image or video file, so it plays on every screen impressBox runs on, including older LG webOS, Samsung Tizen and Orsay displays; no special browser engine is needed. See supported hardware.
