Moving from MagicINFO

Moving off Samsung MagicINFO: keep your screens, change the software

Samsung ends sales of MagicINFO On-Premise on 31 December 2026 and the MagicINFO Cloud service on 28 February 2027. impressBox runs on the same Samsung Tizen displays through URL Launcher, and on older Samsung Orsay displays, in the cloud or on your own infrastructure, so the software changes and the screens stay.

What Samsung has announced

The dates below are from Samsung’s own MagicINFO roadmap. They apply to every MagicINFO customer, whatever the size of the installation.

Samsung MagicINFO end-of-life dates and what they mean
31 December 2026End of sale for MagicINFO On-Premise, for existing and new customers. No new MagicINFO server licences after this date, including for screens you add to an existing installation.
28 February 2027End of service for MagicINFO Cloud.Screens managed through MagicINFO Cloud need another platform before this date.
2027 onwardSamsung standardises all sales on VXT.Samsung’s own path for Tizen displays is a VXT subscription.
31 December 2029End of support for MagicINFO.Existing on-premise servers can keep running until then, without new licences; MagicINFO 8 already receives no security patches (the last one was October 2023).

Your three options

There is no option that keeps everything as it is. The question is which change you make, and when.

Move to Samsung VXT

Samsung’s cloud CMS and the path Samsung sells from 2027. A subscription per screen; the choice if you want to stay inside the Samsung ecosystem.

Stay on MagicINFO until support ends

Possible for on-premise installations until the end of 2029, but without new licences and, for MagicINFO 8, without security patches. Buys time, not a future.

Move to impressBox

The same Samsung Tizen screens, installed through URL Launcher, run on a cross-platform CMS with a built-in AI agent, in the cloud or on your own infrastructure. Older Samsung Orsay displays are supported too.

How a migration from MagicINFO works

Screens are switched site by site while the rest of the network keeps running on MagicINFO. The software changes; nobody climbs a ladder.

  1. Inventory

Export the device list from MagicINFO: models, Tizen version, sites. It tells you which screens install through URL Launcher and which are older Orsay models.

  2. Pilot on two or three screens

Install impressBox through URL Launcher on a few displays while the rest stay on MagicINFO. Nothing on the other screens changes.

  3. Content and playlists

Upload the media and rebuild the playlists and schedules. The AI agent reads file names and campaign dates, so a folder of files becomes a scheduled playlist without manual data entry.

  4. Cut over site by site

Switch each site when its playlists are verified. Screens are provisioned remotely; no visit is needed for the software change.

  5. Verify

Proof of play and screenshots confirm that every screen plays what it should, and the old server can be switched off.

On-premise is an option, not a compromise

Many MagicINFO On-Premise installations exist because the network, not the software, had to stay inside the company. impressBox runs on your own infrastructure as well as in the cloud, with the same dashboard, the same AI agent and the same players.

Players also keep playing when the network drops and fetch content from each other inside a site, so a cut link does not empty the screens. See offline resilience and peer-to-peer delivery.

What day-to-day work looks like afterwards

Three things a MagicINFO administrator does today, asked in plain language instead.

  • “Take a screenshot of every screen in store 12.”

Shows what each Samsung display is playing right now, in the chat.

  • “Play these files alongside the current playlist until the end of this month.”

Adds the files with an end date, so they stop on their own.

  • “Why is the entrance screen offline?”

Checks status, logs and network reachability, then suggests or applies a fix.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need new screens to leave MagicINFO?

No. impressBox installs on Samsung professional displays through URL Launcher, so the Tizen screens you run MagicINFO on today stay in place. Older Samsung Orsay displays are supported as well. See the Samsung Tizen setup guide.

Can impressBox run on our own servers, like MagicINFO On-Premise?

Yes. impressBox runs in the cloud or on your own infrastructure. Contact us and say which you need.

What happens to our MagicINFO content and playlists?

Media files are uploaded to impressBox and playlists and schedules are rebuilt there. The AI agent can take campaign dates and target screens from file names, which removes most of the manual work.

How long does a migration take?

A pilot on a few screens takes days. A chain is switched site by site, so the length depends on the number of sites and how the content is organised; the screens that are not yet switched keep running on MagicINFO in the meantime.

What does impressBox cost compared with a VXT subscription?

The impressBox software player starts at €15 per screen per month on a 36-month term, excluding VAT. Compare it with your VXT quote on the Samsung VXT vs impressBox page.

Where do the MagicINFO dates come from?

From Samsung’s VXT documentation, the MagicINFO roadmap page, checked on 2026-10-12. Samsung may change them; the page links to the source.
